Thessalonians 5:16-18 (GNB) “Be joyful always, pray at all times, be thankful in all
circumstances. This is what God wants
for you in your life in union with Christ Jesus.”
The Power of Prayer
Only
when I meet our Lord Jesus face to face will I understand how much good was
accomplished every time I made time to pray during the years that I cared for
my parents. Yet, sometimes I was so
busy that prayer seemed to be just one more thing on my to-do-list. I knew this was the wrong attitude because
through prayer I always come as close as I can to my Heavenly Father. Through prayer He gladly shares with me His
power, wisdom, and guidance.
When I stayed close to God, He gave me what I needed to continue as a caregiver. He gave me thoughts that kept me uplifted throughout the day, and He helped me to make the right decisions for my parents. Even though a part of me resisted at times, I realized it was essential that I prayed my way through this labor of love.
YOUR JOURNAL: What
do you need help with today? When you
pray about it, just remember that God wants the best for you, and He will answer you if you listen. Some of the ways He answers: circumstances, your thoughts, the Bible, Christian books, sermons, and the words of friends.
TIP FOR CAREGIVER: We discovered that an extension toilet seat made it easier for George to sit and get up. It also saved our backs when we lifted my mother on and off the toilet seat.
A Walk With You
Let me talk with you, Lord.
I’m full of those complaints.
This work you’ve given me
saps all my strength.
We’ll speak of simple things,
the flowers, how they grow,
the cold winter snowflakes,
each different from the next;
and our pets who soothe us
when we are so stressed.
We’ll talk of wondrous things,
what the Father did.
In His own dear image,
He made the human race,
and when we went astray,
He sent us You, His Son
to save us from our sins.
Lord now please remind me
how much you sacrificed,
why the Spirit stays here,
chiseling my soul?
The more we are together,
I begin to understand.
Your help is a prayer away
because you are my friend.
